You’re never too old for an Easter egg hunt!

One of Australia’s most popular traditions, an Easter egg hunt is great fun and keeps everyone busy. Set up your own hunt in the yard or even indoors and prepare for plenty of screams and shouts as the kids discover the chocolate left by the Easter Bunny! This is such a popular activity that most towns organize a group Easter egg hunt and Easter parade too, along with food, music, and entertainment.

Set up an egg and spoon race

This activity will have everyone competing for first place as they run around the yard balancing a hard boiled egg on a spoon. It’s a great way to involve the whole family in a fun-filled activity and so simple to create. All you need is several hard boiled eggs (get the kids to paint them), a set of large spoons and plenty of energy. Try not to drop your egg or you’re disqualified! Toddlers will love this game as much as the adults!

Get creative with egg decorating

What a wonderful way to spend family time together. You can either paint hard-boiled eggs or blow out the center of the egg (a job for grown ups), so things don´t get messy when little hands drop an egg! It’s easy to make your own dye for Easter egg decorating. Simple mix food coloring with water, place in a bowl and dip the egg. Then use paints or pens to draw on the eggs. How creative can you be? Spots, stripes, patterns, faces… it’s time to get cracking!

Do some Easter baking

There’s no better excuse to cook up a batch of bunny cookies, or cup cake Easter nests than during the Easter holidays. Kids will love decorating their Easter treats with candy-coated chocolate eggs, jellies and cake decorations. Why not make an Easter basket and fill it with delicious treats for grandma or your neighbor? Baking is relaxing and fun, whether you get the kids to join in or decide to make an elaborate cake for your Easter table.

Have a craft afternoon

How often do you get the time to sit down with the kids and get crafty? Get the whole family to join in and make some beautiful decorations for your home. How about making an Easter tree to decorate your entrance? Collect twigs put them in a pot and hang painted eggs from the branches. You could twist some colored lights around it too for a pretty decoration you can see through the window. Little kids will love making Easter masks – all you need is colored paper, pens, and elastic to fix them. Washi tape is a great craft accessory and comes in so many colors and patterns. You can make framed pictures, decorate gift boxes in spring colors and use your imagination to adorn the left-over egg boxes.

Spruce up your home with some home improvements

Easter is a great time for home décor and the chance to brighten up your home. Why not get the kids to help with painting their own rooms or a yard fence and make them proud of their home? Home improvements and DIY projects are a great way to get all the family together doing something productive.

Find an Easter parade

For some outdoor, fun check out the Easter parades in your neighborhood. The Easter parade is a great excuse for moms to wear their best hats and kids to put on their Easter bonnets. This is the chance to dress up and play games, roll eggs, go bunny hopping and generally have a fabulous time. It’s also the chance to make new friends and swap Easter activity ideas. Jump in the car and find out where the nearest Easter parade is.

These are only a handful of things to do with the kids at Easter in Australia. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy your family time!
