The Great Ocean Road Revegetation Project: Re-building a home for koalas

Re-building a home for koalas

At Europcar, we take our commitment to the environment seriously. This is why we’ve partnered with Greenfleet to launch our carbon offset program.

One of the projects we have chosen to support with Greenfleet aims to restore habitat for koalas along the Great Ocean Road - one of the world’s most scenic coastal drives.

Visitors from around the world travel to the Great Ocean Road to see the towering 12 Apostles, iconic surf breaks and misty waterfalls: and also to catch a glimpse of koalas in their natural habitat. However, in recent times, koala populations in this region have become unsustainable.

Our contributions from our carbon offset program are helping to plant native trees along the Great Ocean Road, such as Manna Gums, to restore habitat and food supply for koalas. These trees also provide habitat for many other animals, including the Powerful Owls, echidnas and wallabies.

Additionally to providing vital habitat, donating to the Great Ocean Road Restoration Project is helping to sequester carbon from the atmosphere in projects, protect biodiversity, improve water quality and transform the landscape back to its natural state.
