Whether you want to enjoy the Costa Blanca with the windows down and the music turned up or take a more leisurely drive to the old town, Barrio Santa Cruz, you can do so at your own pace. Simply hire a vehicle from Europcar Alicante Airport and you can visit all the best sites from the beautiful sandy beaches of the southern coast to the Castle of Santa Barbara which crowns Mount Benacantil and provides fantastic views across the city.

As taking a stroll along the stunning promenades is an integral part of Spanish culture, you may also fancy a trip to Explanada de España – a marble-laid pathway which will guide you from the old town to the sensationally beautiful marina where you’ll also find a selection of first-class eateries.

While history lovers are sure to enjoy Alicante’s MARQ Provincial Archaeological Museum, those with an appreciation for architecture can admire the Basilica of Santa María – the oldest and perhaps prettiest church featuring a gothic 14th century statue of Santa María.

Alicante is perfectly positioned to offer you the chance to venture a little further afield with the lively coastal resort of Benidorm just under an hour’s drive along the coast. You could even head south along the coast to Almeria and Malaga or north-west to the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Driving in Alicante

When driving in Spain, you must stay on the right-hand side of the road and overtake on the left. While the main roads throughout Alicante are kept in good condition, you may find that some of the more rural roads along the beaches and mountains can get a little narrow and bumpy, so take extra care when travelling these less trodden paths.

On-street parking is available in Alicante however the city can get very busy and you may not find a space. With this in mind, you may prefer to head to one of the more spacious parking lots with the harbour offering two big parking areas that are not usually full to capacity during the week.
