Europcar improves access to The Other Film Festival in 2012

 August 2012

Europcar is improving accessibility for Melbournians with a disability, providing a wheelchair accessible vehicle to the event organisers of The Other Film Festival, Australia’s only disability film festival.

The internationally renowned festival showcases outstanding films about the experience of disability, forums on access and disability-related issues and workshops for filmmakers and actors with disabilities. The event runs from 19 September to 23 September and will be staged at the Arts House, North Melbourne Town Hall.

Europcar is the first vehicle rental company to offer wheelchair accessible vehicles, providing a much needed transport solution for people with a disability. The offering is part of an Australian first partnership between Europcar and Automobility Pty Ltd, involving the introduction of Kia Grand Carnival wheelchair accessible vehicles in Europcar's rental fleet. A limited number of vehicles are currently available from Europcar's Melbourne Airport and Melbourne City stores, with the aim to introduce the vehicles across Europcar's national fleet.

Europcar Australia and New Zealand Operations Director, Matt Barker, said that the introduction of this unique type of fleet meets one of Europcar's key promises: to provide a range of travel solutions for customers during every stage of their life.

"Until now, people with a disability have been totally reliant on public transport or wheelchair accessible taxis to get around, which can limit their independence and impact on the travel experience for them and their family," Mr Barker said.

"The wheelchair accessible vehicle that Europcar will provide to The Other Film Festival, is safe, discreet and easy to use, offering a comfortable and convenient mobile solution for those with specific requirements."

Mr Barker said Europcar is delighted to be providing a wheelchair accessible vehicle to The Other Film Festival to transport the event team and their special guests as they arrive in Melbourne for the festival.

"It can be difficult for wheelchair users to travel and attend events such as The Other Film Festival," Mr Barker said.

"Our support of the festival is testament to the value Europcar places on providing customised travel solutions for our customers," he said.
